1770 Glasgow Single Malt Second Release: The Rebirth of a Legend

The Glasgow Distillery Company has breathed new life into the city's rich heritage with its 1770 line. After decades of absence, whisky distillation has returned to Glasgow, and this Second Release demonstrates exactly why the world has been waiting. Crafted from the finest Scottish barley and the exceptionally pure water of Loch Katrine, the spirit is distilled in signature copper pot stills—each individually named—contributing to the unique and refined character of the final product.

This Second Release was matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, followed by a meticulous finish in the finest Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. This process creates a sophisticated complexity, balancing vibrant freshness with a rich, dark sweetness. At De Brouwhoeve, we selected this bottling for its impeccable quality and the transparency of its production: this whisky is non-chill filtered and retains its natural color, exactly as a premium single malt is intended to be.

Taste & character

Nose The whisky opens with rich notes of dried fruit, dark cherries, and a hint of toffee. Subtle undertones of almond and fresh vanilla provide an elegant complexity.

Palate The palate is full-bodied and silky smooth. Nuances of ripe plums and candied orange peel meld seamlessly with spicy oak influences, featuring detectable notes of star anise and a pinch of nutmeg.

Finish A long, warming finale with a light dryness from the sherry casks, concluding with notes of dark chocolate and a soft, honeyed sweetness.

Serving tips & combinations

Pure enjoyment: For the best experience, enjoy this single malt neat in a tulip-shaped Glencairn glass at room temperature. If desired, add one or two drops of spring water to further unlock hidden aromas and reveal the whisky's rich, oily texture.

  • A piece of artisanal dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa).
